The NBA – In Recession?

Posted by Raffy 10:40 am Filed under: General, Information

nbarecessionThe effects of the global economic recession have reached far and wide, so much that it has reached the NBA as companies trim down on expenses and other costs. Sponsorships and other advertising deals are down and more and more seats go unfilled as the economy has them saving each and every dollar for other needs. With jobs being shed all over the place, there seems to be no end to the effects of the economy even on the ordinary Joe who simply wants to live in peace.
The NBA has always been a costly endeavor for the teams, state and advertisers and with dwindling cash supplies, there may not be enough to keep the game in it’s current glory. The games won;t stop but we’ll surely see some changes to the way they are staged and played. The economy has to recover soon for them and many other businesses to begin earning profits again or else they risk loosing advertising and funding to the All American game that is Basketball.

From the NBA, LA Laker’s Kobe and Cleveland Cavalier’s LeBron have been named the players of the week with James guiding his team to hit a 3-0 mark and with home wins over the Heat, Rockets and Wizards, he has improved his team’s mark. He averaged 26.0 points with 53% shooting and added 6.7 rebounds plus 6.7 assists improving Cleveland to 26-4 which is their best start in their franchise history.
Kobe on the other hand led his Lakers to a 4-0 week by averaging 30.0 points with 54% shooting along with 5,5 rebounds and 4.0 assists garnering an all-game high of 27 points.
Not far behind the dynamic duo are Dwayne Wade who might just take the stat records away from them if he improves with next year’s games. This is an early birthday present for LeBron who celebrates his birthday tomorrow with Nike presenting him with the new Nike Zoom LeBron Birthday Series V shoe line.

Three Point Field Goal

It is known also as ‘three pointer’, ‘three point shot’, ‘trey’ or just plain ‘three’. It is a field goal in the game of basketball. It is considered a three point goal if the shot is made outside the three-point line. The three point line is an assigned semi oval arch from the the basket. A successful shot will score three more points much like the two points credited to the shots made inside the three point line. A three point play is another thing. It is different from the three point field goal. Three point play is when the player successfully shoots a two point basket while being fouled by the opponent. He will then have a single free-throw which would sum up three points in all.

A New Debut

Knock, knock. Who’s there? Greg. Greg who?

Yes, folks, the above sentence proves a couple of things. One, it’s kind of obvious who Greg is as Greg Oden finally makes his NBA debut for the Portland Trail Blazers and did well in under 20 minutes of work, scoring 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the floor and 3-for-5 makes at the free-throw line. He also grabbed five boards and blocked two shots. Oden is healthy and obviously ready to make an impact in the Association. No question.

Oh, and the second thing that first sentence proves? That I really had no good punchline, so I just didn’t bother trying because I knew I would do the opposite of what Oden did versus the Sacramento Kings… he succeeded, I would have failed. C’mon, unless a beard is involved, Greg Oden jokes are hard!

Great assists.

Assists are generally important in a basketball game. It requires quick thinking and personally, I think it is one of the most selfless act a basketball player can do—passing the ball to the most eligible shooter in the pitch, brushing aside the thought that the credit for the 2 or 3 points will go to his teammate, and not his. It requires quick thinking because the person who assists the shooter will have to think in a matter of seconds who among his four teammates can shoot the ball. This requires looking for open spaces, passing the ball to his teammate that is isolated, and perhaps, avoiding turnovers. Rajon Rondo topped the league table with his 172 assists, followed by Chris Paul with 135. Deron Williams garnered about 120, Paul Pierce with 119 and Kobe Bryant with 117.
